How To Share Files Between PCs In Windows 10.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to share files between computers running on Windows 10 is using the HomeGroups feature. The HomeGroups were introduced with Windows 7, and it has proven as very useful among users who had been looking for a simple way to share files between computers. This guide will show you how to share files between PCs in Windows 10.

How to share files between PCs in Windows 10

To set up and manage the Homegroups in Windows 10, type “Homegroup” into the search box in the Start menu, or go to Start → Control Panel → HomeGroup.

How to create a HomeGroup?

HomeGroup control panel will check the network on which you’re connected, and does the HomeGroup is already created for that network. If yes, you will be invited to join this group. More about this below.

If HomeGroup is not created, click Create a Homegroup, and click on Next. Then select what you would like to share with other members who will be in the HomeGroup. Then click next. Write the password for HomeGroup because other users also will have to enter it if they want to access the group. Generated password is not easy to remember but we will show you below how you can change it.

How to access the HomeGroup with another computer?

If a HomeGroup already installed on your network you will be notified and the button “Join now” will be presented to you. Click on the button and follow the wizard that works on the same principle as described earlier in the text. If prompted, enter the password to access the group.

How to look at the files that are shared in the HomeGroup?

On the desktop, click This PC. On the left side of the window, you will see a Homegroup and users who are currently in that group. To view files that the user currently shares, click on the name.

How to change the HomeGroup settings

You can change the HomeGroup settings in the Control Panel. Open Start → Control Panel → HomeGroup. There you change what you share, the password, etc…
